Back to 1990, Kemira Agro Oy (Kemira) and Arab Potash Company Ltd. (APC) had first contacts for cooperation concerning potassium fertilizers. The worldwide recession of the chemical industry in 1991-1993 stopped the discussions.
(KEMAPCO) Kemira Arab Potash Company Ltd. (registered at Free Zone Corporation) was established as a joint venture of (APC) Arab Potash Company ltd., in Jordan and Kemira Agro Oy in Finland (later became Kemira Grow-How Oy), with an investment of 110MUSD. The studies for co-operation with the owners had started in 1996 and the memorandum of understanding was signed in 1998.
